SCAM NEWS: Cybersecurity Expert Explains How Scammers Are Taking The Coronavirus Online

This week, cybersecurity experts are issuing a warning surrounding the deadly coronavirus outbreak, with the potential to infect your computers and others.

“It’s getting their attention, because everyone’s been in tune, around the world, on this virus,” Raleigh cybersecurity expert Giovanni Masucci said.

Officials with the cybersecurity firm, Kaspersky, said they’ve found malicious files posing as .pdfs, .mp4s and .docx files, indicating they contain video instructions on how to protect yourself from the virus, updates on the threat, and virus detection procedures.

How Do You Properly Report Scammers?

It is essential that law enforcement knows about scams & scammers, even though there is nothing (in most cases) that they can do.

Always report scams involving money lost or where you received money to:

  1. Local Police – ask them to take an “informational” police report – say you need it for your insurance [use caution, not advisable in all countries]
  2. Your National Police or FBI «www.IC3.gov» OR from within the U.S. «tips.FBI.gov»
  3. The Scars Worldwide Reporting Network «HERE» or on «www.Anyscam.com» [available anywhere]

This helps your government understand the problem, and allows law enforcement to add scammers on watch lists worldwide.
