SCAM NEWS: Aussies Ripped Off Online Every 10 Minutes

Australians are reporting cybercrimes at a rate of one every 10 minutes, with bank fraud, romance scams and ID crimes the most common offenses. But including impersonations of Australian government agencies such as SCAMWATCH!

The Australian Cyber Security Centre said it had received more than 13,500 reports of cybercrime since July, when a new online reporting portal was introduced to track illegal conduct on the internet.

The number of reported offenses significantly understates the scale of the problem, with surveys suggesting one in three Australians has been affected by cybercrime.

How Do You Properly Report Scammers?

It is essential that law enforcement knows about scams & scammers, even though there is nothing (in most cases) that they can do.

Always report scams involving money lost or where you received money to:

  1. Local Police – ask them to take an “informational” police report – say you need it for your insurance [use caution, not advisable in all countries]
  2. Your National Police or FBI «www.IC3.gov» OR from within the U.S. «tips.FBI.gov»
  3. The Scars Worldwide Reporting Network «HERE» or on «www.Anyscam.com» [available anywhere]

This helps your government understand the problem, and allows law enforcement to add scammers on watch lists worldwide.
